If you don't have permission to write to that file, then try opening its Get Info window in the Finder, looking at the "Ownership and Permissions" tab, and making sure that the permissions are right. If this doesn't work (or even if it does), you could try repairing your system's permissions using Disk Utility.

It should be in your iTunes music folder, wherever you've put that. If you don't know, and if you can't get into iTunes to find out there, do a Finder search for 'itunes music library' and it will show up.

Make sure you check the permissions for its enclosing folders, too - and repair permissions for your whole system in Disk Utiliy. I don't understand why it works, but everyone seems to think it does, and they know more than I do so I do it.

wait, before you go changing the permissions on a file, try to repair permissioins FIRST by starting up from your installation cd. then when the installer window pops up, go up to the menus at the top of your screen and choose disk utility. there you will find an option to fix permissions.

repair permissions over and over until it reports no problems.

the reason why i say this is because theres something obviously wrong if the itunes file is locked. it shouldnt be. so repair permissions first and see if the problem is fixed.

also the reason why i am hesitant to change permissions on individual files is because someone here said NOT TO :D unless you really no how permisisons works.
