Hey guys. Had a major problem with my jailbroken Iphone this weekend (just jailbroken, not unlocked). I'm not sure if it is caused by something jailbroken related, or it is a fluke, but here is the problem:

I jailbroke my iphone a month ago, and it has run great since then. Besides messing with themes and the lockscreen, I had backgrounder, categories, sbs, appsync, and some other things installed. So my phone was working great till yesterday morning. I was watching tv, picked up the phone to make a call and there was a message on the screen saying something like:

"Your iphone can't make or receive calls. Connect to Itunes to restore" and when I clicked on the little info sign, there was a message saying something like "IMEI and ICCID unknown"

So I said "f@ck" and tried restarting the phone, but the message was still there. So I let it charge to 100% and then restarted the phone and the message was still there. Again I said "f@ck" and decided to just restore it and then rejailbreak. So I connect to itunes and I get a message saying something like

"Problem with SIM card. Turn off and please insert SIM." or something like that

So I turned it off and took the sim card out and put it back in then restarted the phone. The original message was there, so I again connected to itunes and the SIM card message came up again. So I again said "f@ck" and decided to do a DFU restore. So I put the phone in DFU mode and connect to itunes and I get the message saying that Itunes has detected a phone in recovery mode. So i hit restore and it starts the process. However, about 5 seconds into the restore I get this message:

"Restore Error 23"

I tried it again and again, but I kept getting error 23.

Has anyone ever had this problem? Has anyone heard of a solution? Is this problem due to something related to me jailbreaking my phone? It's weird that it just happened out of the blue. The phone was just sitting there when the first message popped up. Any help would be appreciated.

well nothing I tried helped. I still get error 23. I guess I am going to have to take it back to apple. I'm a little worried now about jailbreaking in the future. Does anyone know what causes this? Massive hardware failure?

Well the good news is that if you take it back to Apple, all they will be able to tell is that it is a hardware failure. They won't be able to detect that it was a jailbreak gone wrong. Good luck, and sorry. :(

Yeah I got a replacement today. Every time it was put into recovery mode, error 23 popped up. I want to jailbreak again, but I'm a little nervous. Are there any precautions I could take? Was this a fluke? Are there any specific apps that could cause this?
