Hi,

macbook pro late 2011
10.13.6
SSD
HDD (in place of the optical drive)

laptop was fine until i opened it this evening. Basically its acting very strange, half my finder window sidebar favourites have gone, my desktop picture has been replaced by the stock one (sometimes after restart my desktop pic comes back, sometimes it doesn't), dropbox can't start, it won't connect, sometimes it tries.

When i go to shutdown or restart it can take ages, sometimes not.

Ive reset pram, ive deleted com.apple.finder.plist, no change.

There's something gone seriously wrong here. But i have no idea what.

internet is working.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks

Run disk utility and run first aid. Could be a failing/corrupted hard drive. Report back what disk utility tells you. If applicable tell us what the SMART status is of your drive.

ok, did a recovery mode, ran first aid on both drives, said they were ok, restarted, still the same.
