I have gone out and looked all over the place and I have done many different suggestions prior to coming here and asking. If this is an incorrect place for this question, please kindly move the thread or let me know and I will move it to another place if possible. Having said that let me explain my issue.

Computer started to have freeze-up issues. This was after a security update and the latest 11.0.3 version of Safari was installed. I could be wrong on version but it was all the latest for El Capitan. Things got so bad I had to hard restart with the power button. All of a sudden, Computer decided to reinstall the OS on its own. many reinstalls later, still no good! Finally did the one thing I had not done, made a new admin account. All works fine on it; No lag no stall, no freeze. Back to the old account, safari seems to be the problem child.

I can log into the old account and work for 30 minutes but the second that Safari opens the computer will freeze. I cannot even open activity monitor to see anything. End up having to do a hard restart. At this time I feel as if I could rebuild or really fully 100% delete Safari and do a fresh reinstall I would be best off but I would also think that reinstalling the OS software would have done that for me and yet that did not happen. SO does anyone have any ideas on what I might do or should do?

I am happy to answer questions or do as I am instructed but I am just clueless. FWIW, I am also willing to delete that account and just use my test account if need be. However, I would love to know if there is a way I could get my bookmarked pages and the like and put it in the new account safely ( this would be my last ditch effort go to sort of thing ).

Thanks for reading and for helping.

Since a new account works, that implies that either you have some third party software starting when you logon to the problem account or you have corrupted data. I would start by deleting ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari. The tilde, ~, represents your logon location: /Users/<username>.

Yep. I did that once prior too. However, for good measure, I did it again and everything just froze again. Have activity monitor open and cannot even force quit safari, can't do anything.

next idea? Thanks

Did you empty the trash and re-boot before opening Safari again?

If so, I would have the Console log open before starting Safari and see if anything interesting is logged.

An EtreCheck report may also be helpful.

I have not done the console log mainly because that is one thing I am clueless on how to use, but it does seem fairly point and click friendly.

Did do an EtreCheck and that showed little at the time but I will run another to double check. As I recall the biggest issue was flashplayer was out of date.
[doublepost=1517006354][/doublepost]Just a quick note on console:

5.35.10 pm : Safari: History store schema version (13) does not match our support...
(same time) syncdefaultsd: accountsd has been removed for syncing apps.

Now it may just be me but I think there is a problem here. Just no clue how to fix it yet.

Forgot to say yes, I did empty trash and reboot; Habit I guess from days gone by. Also, I ran an ETRE and have that document if you would like to look at it, if not that's cool too.

Disclaimer: I am not an expert. Proceed at your own discretion. Suitable backups are your responsibility.

Yes, include the Etre report.

Try deleting the ~/Library/Safari/History* files.
Nuclear option: Delete everything in ~/Library/Safari.

Love the disclaimer! I am not either. I am trying to find a safari 11.0 download but have not yet. I could go all the way to an 11.0.2 but I was thinking if I could get an 11.0 I might be able to delete all safari related in ~ folder and HD folder as well. Your thoughts?

Decided to delete all the safari files for that user. Emptying trash now and reboot. Let you know down below in and update

UPDATE:

SO I did in fact do the nuke delete. Wish I had saved the favs and bookmarks, oh well live and learn right?
Opened safari and all did seem well for a good bit. However I looked at a few pages and had no issues so I went to youtube and clicked a couple of vis and that is where a problem began. started being slow and glitchy video that was a 1080 and I figure I should run one fine but there was an issue so I figured the ads caused a problem. I got ADP (ad block plus) and installed it. Sh*& froze up! so I am going to do it all over again and get something else. Start with ghostery this next time!

UPDATE 2:
Seems like every time I add an extension all hell breaks loose and things freeze up again. I added ghostery and things froze up for that too.

Have you tried adding an extension to Safari in your alternate account that does not lock up?

I just did that. I wanted to shoot an email to Pete at ghostery and get what he thought I should install. Once he sent it to me I installed and rebooted. All was fine. Ran through a few different pages, no problems. I am clueless about what is going on.
[doublepost=1517268980][/doublepost]Quick update: Seems that what was happening was apple forcing me to get ghost version 5.4.10 which will not run on this version of Safari 9.1.3
I guess it will not recognize it and that's why no issues? Hmm.

I had this problem in El Capitan (native support) and Sierra (upgraded after flashing the firmware from 4,1 to 5,1) on a 2009 Mac Pro. I quit using Safari. Firefox works perfectly fine. I upgraded to Mojave and thought I would try Safari again. I reset the Safari prefs and cleared the history and plugins. Went to juno.co.uk to listen to some new records that I might purchase. Boom. Safari locks up the computer when i'm listening to audio samples with their embedded juno player. This works perfectly fine in Firefox and Chrome... I force shut down my tower. Reboot and create a new test user. Open Safari, go to the same site, listen to the same tune and same result... glichty, delayed mouse clicks, etc. I am actually able to force quit. But the computer is barely responsive. I log out from the test user and the screen goes black. I can't do anything. Force shut down again. Reboot. Open Firefox. Got to juno.co.uk. play the tune, it works flawlessly. So... the Safari issue is system wide, not just in one user folder. No added extensions or plug-ins. Latest photoshop, iMovie, Garageband, other audio and video software works great on this machine... Basically everything works great except Safari since El Capitan. Mac Pro Early 2009 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 32 GB AMD Radeon HD 7950 3072 MB... BTW Safari 12.0.2 works flawlessly on my 2010 13 inch MBP in High Sierra... I'm wondering if this could be hardware related... I just tried updating java to the latest. Opened Safari again, same problem. Didn't freeze completely. Computer very unresponsive. Finally was able to quit Safari, computer stayed unresponsive. I was finally able to click shut from the apple menu. Computer would not fully shut down. Forced it after a few minutes. I had Console open the whole time. Maybe it's my GPU? I can't make sense of the log. i will paste the log in the post.

Just for fun. I put in a blank drive and did a fresh install of Mojave. Opened Safari. Went to https://www.juno.co.uk/products/silvetti-bataan-spring-rain-stereo/542626-01/ played the song again. Computer became unresponsive again. couldn't force quit, etc. Finally had to force shut down. I did some surfing on Safari today. Most sites work great. I think it is just an issue of incompatible media players, etc. Youtube and bandcamp are fine... The only thing that i don't get is that my 2010 13" macbook pro plays the above link fine in the same version of Safari. Safari has been freezing my 2009 Mac Pro since El Capitan...
