iPod Make a ipod copy on a partition for Linux

I would like to duplicate my iPod on to a partition of its drive.
I have a iPod 5.5G w/ the latest firmware; and a iBook G4 w/ Mac OS X 10.4.11

I want to try putting Linux on my iPod but I want a safe way to do it. (I can only find Linux here: http://ipodlinuxinstl.sourceforge.net/ )
Any help would be great.
