make a .mac server (on my own server)

does anyone know if there is a way that I can create my own .mac server where I could run iSync and connect to my own server and do all the cool stuff that .mac does? I have a linux box to my disposal that I can mess around with. Anyone have any ideas?

The article is actually for making your own version of .Mac on Mac OS X, but I'm sure you could do basically the same thing with Linux.

Are there any other articles available? This one just seems to tell you how to setup a web server (and nothing about .mac) it just says you can host your own website (which i have already setup). the second part merely tells you that you can setup webdav (which i think i might look into) to use with idisk.

I've looked around on the web and haven't seen too much. I want to pretty much have 99% of the functionality of .mac, but without having to go over the internet (all over LAN)

well, WebDAV IS iDisk.

All .Mac is is the iDisk & the mac.com email.

If you're looking for sync stuff, there are about a billion different ways you could do it.

For Address Book stuff, I'd assume you could create an LDAP server on Linux or something, and have Address Book look at that for the contacts.

Bookmarks for iSync, I really have no idea. perhaps make an AppleScript to load your current bookmarks file on the Linux server and everytime you add another bookmark, have it send a new copy to the server.

what i really want to do, is make os X think that .mac is my server, and authenticate to my own server using all the cool stuff that is built into panther and have it integrated, besides just mounting my own idisk. That way I could integrate it with iPhoto and stuff.
