I just tried it. Sound quality is pretty good. Only thing I wish they'd improve is not having to be online in gtalk to make a call

Agreed...kinda annoying. Does anyone know if this will work outside of the US when traveling?

How does one receive phone calls over Wi-Fi on this? If I call my google voice number it goes to the GV answer machine

I think you mean Viber.

I love Viber because it uses your regular iPhone phone # as your account number. So you can use Viber to call anyone...if they have Viber it rings that. If they don't have Viber it sends you to your normal phone app and dials them that way.

A lot of the other VOIP solutions either give you fake phone number that no one knows or make you remember which of your friends can use their service and which can't.

Viber eliminats that. Just use it to call any friend and it decides how to contact them based on what's installed on their phone.

yea but is sucks because the other user has to have the app to receive or make calls. Talkatone integrates with you gv number. so you can make and receive calls from your gv number. The other person on the other end doesn't need anything(app) to receive your calls. Also gv lets you pick a number.

No they don't. If they don't have the app, you end up calling them on the normal cell network. You're not using Wifi anymore but they DO receive the call. That's what I like about Viber. When they don't have the app it just kicks you back to the nomral network.

A no go for me.

I'm not giving up my cell phone number. Google Voice is a big fat non entity for me until they can figure out how to tranfer my AT&T number to them. If they can ever work that out, I'll look into it.

I downloaded this app on iTunes on my Mac and have yet to sync it to my iPhone, I am in no rush. I have Google Voice and use it regularly but what does it mean to be online in gtalk?

You have to be signed on to google talk to be able to make/receive calls (the app does that for you)

Dude it's free. No one is forcing you to use it. Calm down.

Hi,
Great Discussion ....!
Mostly i use PennyTalk for free calls.PennyTalk is a pre-paid calling service offering you incredibly low rates per minute on all your international calls from the UK.

Yes i ment viber sorry .

Really a great app for me at the moment the best on iphone as it works on 3G perfectly no wifi needed and it s FREE

iPhone app

Hey Pennytalks iPhone app is free too. So you don't have to change sims to get cheaper rates.

Also with using your mobile to call abroad it costs quite a bit, but there is no extra charge using your mobile if you don't have the iPhone app.

Plus they have free calls to India, USA and Canada right now.
