I want one...I REALLY want one.

My wife, the rational one in our family, keeps telling me there is no reason for me to hurry. Blabbity bla bla bla, the first version could have problems, the next one is always better, maybe the price will come down, yadda yadda yadda.

Me...I don't care! So I'll get another one then!

But alas, I still do not have one, and unless my boss has one waiting for me at work this week, I'm not gonna have one for awhile.

So tell me why I'm doing the right thing and make me feel better. Because I can't think of any good reasons not to just buy one anyway, despite my wife's opinion.

your wife told you how she feels, you have free choice, but you want strangers to make your decision for you? sorry, I'm not going down that road--it's a "bag of hurt". good luck.

Just buy one and let her play with it for awhile, you'll soon be heading back to the store to purchase another one for yourself :D it's really that addicting, I can't seem to stop playing with this thing.

This.

Grow a pair and *gasp* talk to your wife. If money's tight, and you don't have a good reason to justify buying one, then I'm going to agree with your wife.

Why spend $500+ on something you don't need?

I bought an iPad for development. Otherwise, despite really wanting one, I wouldn't have bought it.

Get one. Big thumbs up here. I was reluctant at first and shocked everyone cause I didn't pre-order. But, after playing with one in the store, I was hooked and immediately picked one up.

The price won't go down at all. But what you are missing out on is the beta testing. The problem with apples cloak and dagger approch is everything that's out bar a few apps was written on a buggy sim not a piece of hardware. So a few weeks time everything will have been patched and nice. Hence why I'm glad the uk release was delayed.

Well as much as it's paining me, I have decided to wait for the next generation, so I find myself in a similar position as you. I'm holding out mainly for the old rule of thumb that it's always better to wait for the second generation. No matter how great everyone says the iPad is, there is no doubt room for improvement, and the biggest wave of improvements seem to come to the 2nd generation. Look at the iPhone and iPhone 3G. There were many iPhone owners wishing that had waited for the 3G. But I don't know of many 3G owners wishing they had waited for a 3GS. I have no doubt the iPad is already an incredible product, and I no doubt want one really really badly, but I think it will be worth the wait for the 2nd Generation, when the platform has solid ground under its feet.

I really really want one today too, but I also want the 3G version and that is what is keeping me from running to one of the Apple Stores in my local malls and getting one today. I went there yesterday and played with one, and I now know I really want one.

I'm hoping the 3G will be out by the end of the month.

My wife can't put it down. She's been playing Scrabble on it since yesterday's original charge. Dude, just go and buy it.

If My wiFe started using mine I wouldn't see it anymore. Thinking about putting it in my safe when not in use.

Why hold out, this is the 4th generation? The iPad is just a huge iPhone or iPod touch. The next will be better, but it's probably not going to be leaps and bounds better.

sorry but your wife's wrong. the next version could cost more. and a lot of the features could just be from a soft upgrade just like 2.0. get one. you wont regret it.

LOL!! Now you tell me. Once she started playing around with it, she was sold and told me "Thanks baby" I'm like, hey I bought that for me not you. Oh well, let's see if I can get the new rumored Macbook Pro coming in a few months.

I could tell you your wife is wrong, but you already known that. Excuses not to buy a gen 1 the than not having the $ are just that... Excuses. I'm not going to lie. The iPad is awesome. Sure there ares quirks and things missing but nothing major.

The whole "next model will be better" argument is so hollow. Yes, next year's model will be better. And when it comes out the next year's model will be better. Ad infinitum.

TRUTH! Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned:( This is not a $25.00 purchase. Let's see: $500.00 - $700.00 purchase plus tax, accessories and applications. This should be a mutual agreement purchase. Women DO NOT forget and it could come back to bite you. Take her to the store and let her play with it. Perhaps she will change her mind. If not, purchase at your own risk. I know, been there, done that. Its not pretty.

I want an iPad FAR more than I ever wanted an iPhone. I was able to hold off buying an iPhone until the 3G came out but I don't think I'm going to be able to resist the iPad much longer.

I guess I should have been a little more clear.

I CAN buy one, she just THINKS I should wait.

It's not like she told me "you can't buy one".

She's not an early adopter by any means. I bought her an Ipod for Christmas one year and she was like, "what am I supposed to do with this?". NOW, she uses is literally EVERY DAY.

For Christmas this year, I ordered her a Kindle. It didn't arrive on the day it was supposed to so I asked a neighbor to check for it if UPS came to my house. We were on our way to my wife's parents' house for Christmas when the neighbor called her and told her that our AMAZON package was here. My wife knew I was waiting on a package for her that didn't come.

She said, "I sure hope you didn't buy me one of those stupid book reader things..." She then realized what she'd just said. Now she reads the crap out of that thing.

I'm trying to convince her to sell her Kindle on Ebay and get an iPad, but THAT won't be easy either. I have still yet to convert her from her freakin' blackberry.

Once I have an iPad for her to play with, I think I can kill two birds with one stone.

I am waiting, for a few reasons.

1 - I want the 3g version
2 - I don't like to make decisions based on emotion or because of what everybody else is doing, I want to wait a little bit and see how people feel after the euphoria recedes
3 - I want to see what competitors do, if anything interesting in a short timeframe

I'll probably get one in a month or so.

The first version is fine. If you wait for the perfect time to buy tech toys.....you'll never buy one. I refuse to help you feel better. Buy one or don't.
