In past, I think before Catalina, when I took a picture on my iPhone, it would show in my iMac Photos application within minutes. Since Catalina or at least one of its updates, it takes hours or overnight to show up. I do verify that my iPhone has updated after taking a picture (it sometimes pauses to save battery, but I'll resume it, and it says it's updated). Many times I need to do something on my iMac using that picture, and have to wait until it updates. What can I do to fix things, or is Catalina Photos broke (I've seen multiple threads saying so).?

Thanks!

I have had this issue like forever. IOS devices seem to update virtually immediately but my new 2018 Mac mini running Catalina and my previous MacBook Pro 2010 running High Sierra, took ages (hours, days sometimes) to show the latest photos.

Photos taken on iPhone, and upload to iCloud within minutes if that long. Both iMac and MacBook (same version MacOS) take hours or overnight to show those same photos. All configured identical with iCloud Photos and Download Originals To This Mac checked on both.

I have that same issue when I take photos on iPhone. Takes forever if at all. However, I have found if I open photos on my iPad - photos are there immediately and then the photos appear on Mac right away. As if Mac will only sync from iPad and not iPhone

Thats interesting. I just did a quick trial. It appears to me that if you take a photo with your iPhone, it won't show on macOS unless you first open the photos app on the phone. Then it appears immediately on the Mac. I wonder if this is how its meant to work?

Tried that and it didn't work - for some reason I have to open on my iPad for sync to Mac to work - as long as I know what I have to do I'll live with it for now
