How would I go about making simple B&W static (noise) in Photoshop? When I apply the "Add Noise" filter to a solid black image, the noise is far too fine and tiny... I need it to be coarser.

Ideas?

you can add noise.. and then montion blur the entire image. im not sure if that will get you what youre looking for though.

Start with a 72 ppi document and do as the previous poster mentioned. Crank the uniform monochromatic noise up to 400 pixels. Then add about 3 pixel Motion Blur and save as a GIF to minimize grays. Open the GIF file and scale up Image Size proportionately to a divisible of 72 with "nearest neighbor" selected. (Optional: copy and paste into new channel of another image to depict static over it or paste onto new layer and adjust opacity/blend mode.)
