make web pages load faster?

Im new to mac, and I noticed something:

on a pc, internet explorer saves pictures and things on pages so the next time you visit that page, or use the back button, the pictures are already loaded, and the page dosnt have to reload complately.

does safari just not do this? clicking the back button, or even going back to goolge after opening a new window re-downloads every picture and it takes forrreeevverrr.

I downloaded Camino, and thats a little faster, but it still dosnt remember all the pictures.

is there a setting or way to change this??

if you mean at which site am I comparing this - every site I visit.

Its drasticaly slower on the net than my pc was, and its very noticeable and obvious that its because of redownloading the same pictures every time it visits a site. instead of keeping the pictures on disk for a while to re-use and load faster, it shows image placeholders until a minute later the pictures begin downloading.

safari does cache (this is the term) files just as other browsers do; however safari doesn't yet let you change the size of the cache... mostly because as broadband comes along, cache can actually be slower than reloading the info, so it's not high priority for apple. kind of annoying. however the default setting is more than adequate for me, and does use cached files when i click "back" or something... keep in mind that a page needs to be fully loaded before it's committed to cache, you also may want to repair permissions, as safari could be having problems writing to the cache directory. best of luck.

alright, thanks. that most likely is my problem - me being inpatient and clicking around before the page is fully loaded lol.

im kinda new to mac so im not really sure how to change permissions, or what files to do this to. ive used linux before for like a month so I know a little about it, but im difinitely not a guro lol
