Making a jump from 6s+ to Max couple of questions?

So I’m finally upgrading my iPhone 6s+ to an XS Max. I have a few questions hopefully some of you can help.

1. How are offloaded apps handled when you transfer to a new phone? Do they stay offloaded and keep all their data?

2. I have 12.1 beta how would I restore my new phone when it get it on Monday? What’s the best way to handle that since I’m kind of getting the idea that I should have not upgraded to 12.1 beta.

3. Finally in your opinion I was going to keep my old iPhone 6s+ because it’s pretty flawless for such an old phone but then I thought what if I wanted to sell it would someone like it more if I got a battery replacement or let the person that buys it get a battery replacement?

I updated from a 7+ on iOS 12.1 beta and no issues. It went back to the iCloud backup from before I updated to 12.1. I’m not sure if I just didn’t back it up since then or that was on purpose. I originally planned on setting up as a new phone.

The offloaded apps stayed in my folders still offloaded.

If your current phone is on the beta then you have two choices. You can set up the new phone normally, but it will only allow you to restore a backup from before you upgraded to 12.1. As long as you don’t mind restoring an older backup then that’s the quick and easy option.

The other option is to first set up the new phone as a new phone without restoring a backup. Then install the beta profile and upgrade the new phone to 12.1. Then to go settings|general|reset|erase all content and settings. That will wipe the new phone and allow you to go through setup again. This time you can restore your most recent backup since the phone is now on 12.1.
