Ok, this is novice question, and it may seem obvious to everyone on here, but is it possible to throw a web page up using my iMac 17" with Panther 10.3.4, without having extensive html knowledge or special software like Dreamweaver? I'm new to this and want to test the waters before I invest in these programs. I tried to put pics up on the "your website here" page I found when looking through my hard drive, but kept getting a "access forbidden on server" or something like that. :( I checked the "allow personal web sharing" option on the prefs, no difference. Am I overlooking something? Do I need to imput code and get an FTP program to do this?

Well, this program will help with the writing of it... but as for hosting it yourself, I do not know.

I have not had any success hosting my website on my own machine. But I do have an excellent free host that I could refer you to. (Then you would need an FTP program... I reccomend Panic's Transmit)

What kind of webpage do you want to build?

If it's just to share pictures with family and friends, the simplest thing to do is use Homepage with .Mac You just click on the homepage button within iPhoto and follow the instructions.

If you want to build something more personalised with your own style etc, then you can code from scratch using SubEthaEdit or something - but you do need to know basic html to do that or use a WYSIWYG - I'm not sure of a free or cheap WYSIWYG editor. You'll need some webspace to put them up on - and an ftp client to get into it.

I have one site that I build in Dreamweaver (which has very specific content) but if I just want to put up pics of a wedding or something, I find the Homepage option much quicker.

"Homepage" option only available if you have purchased .Mac

Who is it? I'm looking for a Mac friendly free host.

I want to start out simple, with my blogger entries on it, some pics, and possibly music/video streams later. I don't have a .Mac account, however. Do you think it's worth 99 bucks a year?

Thanks for the tips! :D

If you're new at creating websites and want to have a blog and pictures this might be a bit much. Especially with music and video streams. I'm not sure about the audio/video part but check out www.blogger.com.
