I have just posted exact same on Apple Support forums.

Hi,

I have an iPhone, I have a MacBook Air (current use) and a MacBook Pro (old computer). All have photos on them. Some of them common across all devices, some of them unique to each device.

My iPhone is out of storage space PLUS I really need to consolidate my photos. Is iCloud the answer?

I have more than the free 5GB storage allowance and am happy to pay for extra storage. Where do I even begin? Is there a step-by-step guide available anywhere? Is this something that the Genii at the Apple Store can provide guidance on?

If I place all the photos currently on my iPhone/MacBook Air and MacBook Pro into iCloud I take it I can safely delete them from my each of those devices and will be able to access those photos from iCloud whenever I have a dat connection?

Any and all guidance, in no-nonsense, non-technical jargon, most appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

1) iCloud Photo Library is *not* a backup solution. I would never have it be the sole source of photos.
2) Also consider Google Photos.
