So the biggest con of the system I've found yet seems to be that I have absolutely no idea how to make the system stay awake and connected to the WiFi with the lid of my MBA is closed. I know there are apps for that like NoSleep, InsomniaX or Caffeine but even though I installed NoSleep, set the system preferences to never sleep on battery and not go to sleep when the monitor is off, it still ignores these completely and stops and downloads uTorrent is performing only to start connecting to all the peers once I open the lid again.

Is there any way to force the windows-like closed lid action where it just turns the monitor off but everything is running on the computer as if it were openen?

I'm not talking about the use with external display - just the option to be able to close the lid while all the downloads are still pending. Whether I use NoSleep or Caffeine makes absolutely no difference - everything freezes anyway and the downloads start from 0kB/s when I open the lid.

Would you settle for having the lid open but the screen off? That's the compromise I live with.

Yeah, that's what I do now too, just dropping the keyboard and screen backlight to zero and leaving it slightly open. I'm just trying to figure out if there's a way to do it "the right way", closing the lid completely.

InsomniaX did help me to achieve keeping the Mac running doing its business, probably uploading porn, while the lid was closed. No external USB devices needed to be attached doing that.
