I may have ventured where the dark side lives with my Safari and while I KNOW Apple doesn't get viruses, I either got a virus or malware infection.

As soon as I boot up Safair, I get popups saying I need to "Norton Up" or something. Then when I try to go to another website, I get the "do you really want to leave" popup. Very irritating to say the least.

Any ideas as to how to get rid of this problem?

I have been having Safari issues as well but don't receive pop ups. However lately I am getting lots of spam emails saying my Norton subscription is about to expire and I never ever had norton.

I'm guessing it's a adweare scam to sell Norton. I went with ClamXav which has a 30 day free tryout. It identifed 3 files that I garbage canned and haven't had a problem with since. The web has an epidemic of crap. Every day I get several emails that look legit, but want me to repy to a link in them that is "trolling" for scams, etc. I NEVER answer any of them, but I know they're proabably caused by me going somewhere in uncharted internet waters.

Sometimes I think a great project would be to reinstall my entire computer back to factory standards, first making a list of all the websites I go to and then with a new email address, change my email address. Kind of like going off the gird, by leaving all those other email addresses to gather dust.
