I am looking for the best solution to problem below.
Note that I am a IT Technician with many years experience in windows but I have very little experience with MacOS.
Setup:
MacBook Pro M3M running Sequoia 15.0.1
Parallels Desktop 20.1.0 running windows 11 Pro
Setup with 2 external monitors connected via OWC Thunderbolt Hub & MacBook screen are used.
Monitor layout: | 1 | 2 | 3 | : 1 MacBook Screen, 2 External 4k Monitor, 3 External 4k Monitor
Idle Setup solution: MacBook Screen will Display MacOS and can be fully used without affecting Windows. 2 External Monitors will display Windows VM Full screen and will be seen as a standard 2 screen setup by windows.
Problem:
Parallels in full screen by default will take up either 1 single screen or all 3 screens at once. Set in Parallels options to use 1 or all screens.
Workaround currently used:
Ensure that VM window is in center external screen screen > Parallels set to use all screens for full screen > All 3 monitors use windows full screen > Within "Windows Display Settings" Disconnect the laptop screen > Now MacOS Is displayed on MacBook Screen and 2 external Screens are Windows > Exactly what I want and everything works as expected. But if the MacBook goes to sleep it messes with the screens and I have to start again.
In Addition to this I am using a 3rd party software in windows "multimonitortool-x64" to recall the screen settings and upon running shortcut get the desired effect (most of the time) without having to open up windows display settings.
Problems with workaround:
Requires specific screen for Windows to be on before setting full screen.
Needs to be set in windows every time you go full screen.
If the MacBook is disconnected from the Dock and reconnected configuration is "sometimes" lost and you have to go through the process again.
If MacBook goes to sleep upon wake the configuration is lost and needs to be reset again.
If full screen mode is entered while on any other monitor than the center screen there can be major problems with screens disappearing, causing major user issues.
Sometimes the multimonitor tool seems to get confused and produces horrible results, e.g. Windows looks like it is scaled 1000%
I have contacted parallels support and had poor feedback, it this appears to be the best "workaround" suggestions of using spaces as another potential solution but I tried that and it is more confusing and had greater scope for user error.
I need to have a solution that is the most user friendly and minimal room for error. Maybe there is a 3rd party MacOS app that can be used even if it is a paid for app.
Can anyone help as I have been tasked with coming up with a better solution, there must be others out there that are attempting to achieve the same results.
Cheers
