iPod Managing both Lossless and MP3/AAC versions of the same album

I've recently decided to keep a lossless version of some albums along with their mp3/aac counterparts. I would want to use the lossless version on my Apple TV to which I have a nice audio setup. I would use the mp3/aac version to go to my ipods (touch & nano). I was thinking of just keeping two playlists and selectively syncing to the appropriate device But will there be any collisions since the tags on the lossless and mp3/aac tracks will me the same (same album, same song, etc.) Do I have to modify any of these so they dont conflict?

I use this fantastic little program. You only need to keep the lossless files on your hard drive and just one itunes library. With this script you select the lossless song you want in itunes, it creates a new AAC version at a bitrate set by yourself. Transfers the AAC version to the ipod and then deletes the AAC version after transfer. It means you dont waste space on your drive with multiple versions of the same song.

you can do it, just remember whick one is the lossless and which is mp3/aac. cant guarantee the at they wont both show up on the apple tv though

I have almost half my library lossless, but prefer LAME V0 for the iPod.

I encode my MP3's with the iTunes LAME app(free), add them to the iPod manually, add art, and delete them.
However, I do have a clone of my iPod on a backup HDD, which I regularly update with SuperDuper. If my iPod gets lost or damaged, I have the clone, with no re-encoding, selecting or managing.
ALSO, if I need the MP3's, or anything from my iPod, or my backup, I can just open up iPodDisk, which quickly launches any connected iPod(or backup clone)as a disk image, where I can pluck files in the OS X Finder!

This sounds complicated, but it's very simple and very manageable. Not a snag yet, after 4 years and 3 iPods. Peace of mind!
