Hopefully I can explain this so it makes sense. In Mavericks if you wanted to manage ANY sort of your iCloud based data, you could just navigate to /Library/Mobile Documents on your Mac, and delete away. I liked to keep things nice and clean so as I played and deleted iOS games, I'd just go into this folder once in awhile and delete away the old contents.

Now that Yosemite is out and everything is changed with CloudKit and all of that jazz, everything is different and certainly isn't working the same. If you navigate to the same folder /Library/Mobile Documents, it's clear that the folder is now being used differently. Essentially, its hidden inside the "iCloud Drive" folder now, which makes sense. If I use a file finder app (find my file) to locate the hidden documents inside the Mobile Documents folder, I can indeed find it so I can view everything actually inside of it.

Here's the odd part - These hidden contents are still actually in use but you are UNABLE to delete the contents. For example, I re-downloaded Fruit Ninja since it was overhauled. I played it for a bit, felt MEH about it and deleted it. I now see a "fruit" folder in here. I then go to delete it. It deletes for about 2 seconds then magically re-creates itself.

Here it is in action: http://cl.ly/image/3W0w3I0K3p2I

Any thoughts? Any devs maybe able to comment on this?

(Note: None of these folders can be deleted via Sys Prefs > iCloud > Manage, in fact, they do not show up there.)

Same here, tried everything I can think of without any luck. There was a "Reset Documents and Data" for iCloud, but it now available for iCloud drive.

The only interesting thing I've been able to figure out is that even if you delete items while you are NOT connected to the internet, they still replicate and come back. Doesn't matter, connected to the net or not. So annoying.

Did you ever find an answer to your question? Because I have the same one. When deleting anything from iCloud Drive it just comes right back.

I wish. I tried asking in a few other places as well. No dice :(

The previous (and probably current) iCloud function behaviour (say bookmarks), was to maintain them on iCloud until not required by any device - ie only when you deselected "Safari" on all devices would you bookmarks cease to be maintained in iCloud, if one device still was active then any other device, when enabled, would get the message "do you want to merge data with iCloud".

If this behaviour has been carried over to iCloud Drive (which makes it ultra-conservative and difficult to manage), then you might try deleting the file on each device as close together in time as you can, hopefully iCloud Drive then gets the message you don't want the file.

We don't mean deleting files that sync with your apps and that you can see in iCloud Drive on iCloud.com, for example. We mean the hidden files and folders that are still stored under your iCloud drive but that once you delete them they just reappear before your eyes. Many of these folders are for apps that we have since deleted and we wanted to delete their corresponding hidden iCloud Drive folders but we can't.

Still holds, my guess would be iCloud still thinks an app is enabled/installed, just not connecting. If you have deleted the app and can no longer sign it out of iCloud by any means then I suspect you would need to call Apple to see if they can reset it. As I said, if iCloud thinks the file is still possibly going to be used it won't allow it to be deleted...
