Managing iCloud Files

How are we 'suppose' to manage iCloud files from within Mountain Lion and on my iOS devices. For example I use iA writer and I have a bunch of different files stored in iCloud. If I want to edit a bunch of the names and delete a few odd ones or rename the file I'm using. What is the correct way to go about doing this? It seems the only way is to go through the 'open' option and it brings up the iCloud documents. This goes for pages as well. Really the only way to access the files is through that open menu/window... that I know of anyways.

I'm not complaining about iCloud, I love it, just want to know if theres a better way to go about editing/deleting files.

Use finder and go to (shift-cmd-G) "~/Library/Mobile Documents/" and you can find all your files there.

You can see all your iCloud documents in Finder/All My Files.

Strange that Apple hasn't put a dedicated iCloud folder visible in the finder. I would have thought that this would be a relatively easy task....

The iCloud Preference Pane also allows you to manage iCloud items. I don't think you can rename them in the pref pane though.

System Prefereces > iCloud > Manage button and then you can delete iCloud files for that application.

And in the open iCloud document window you can right click and Rename.

As you are discovering, iCloud isn't the Finder. You can't access any old file from any old application, and move things easily around. Not that the Finder is state of the art, but iCloud's model is to have files associated ever more closely with just the application that created them. More like on your iPhone. You can't even structure them several folders deep.

You need to take all this into consideration when deciding where to save stuff. If, like most of us, you might need to open a spreadsheet in either Excel or Numbers, for example, it's just far, far easier to store it in Dropbox. And easier to understand.
