Anyone else miss the good ol’ days before everyone got scared of security exploits?

Xbox/PS, if there is a game (even a fully offline single player only), app, whatever update, all updates seem to be mandatory. (Windows 10, well...) Thankfully Apple still asks.

Unavoidable updates on Windows 10 is a significant part of why I don’t return to Windows. A major reasons for switching to Macs 15 years ago was the incessant nagging pop-ups in Windows. OS X had none, but that has changed a lot. Maybe Apple will also go downhill with mandatory updates.

People are scared of security exploits because security exploits are scary.

Not sure what you mean with the Playstation. For single player games I'm given the option to play without updating with the warning that network options won't be available.

...and Windows 10 updates can be disables, along with everything else to ...unfortunately.... Just disable the Windows Update service...

I always get into the habit, even on Mac, if I don't want to be "asked" I uncheck "Check for updates"

Better safe than sorry ... I don't even trust being "asked" for stuff i don't want.. If i don't want updates,, their gone.

Same... If there is more thing i hate more is the ever increasing "You need an account just for a single player offline game"

If network options aren't available, doesn't worry me since i won't be using it. But I do have problems with creating account for something for which there is no need to.
