Has anyone tried setting a VPN manually on 10.1? Are you able to connect and get a stable connection? Not working for me on iOS10.0 so I had to switch back to 9.3.5.

My provider uses L2TP.

Thanks :)

I do have intermittent connection problems with that type. However, I have had this for years. I switched to OpenVPN and have experienced much better results.

Any way to have it always on?

No, I don’t think that is possible. To my knowledge, only IKEv2 has this functionality, but enabling it requires a supervised device with a pre-configured VPN profile. Third-party apps (like CyberGhost) can listen to network events and manage VPN connections automatically, thereby making it effectively always-on, but it is not a complete solution. The OpenVPN app I am using does not offer this functionality (it is actually a very disappointing app).

I always thought it was stupid to have a vpn but it disconnects when the device goes idle

My OpenVPN connection seems to persist for days. I have not discovered yet when and why it disconnects.
