I moved in a house in the countryside where Internet connections are very poor. I had to get two different connections from two different ISP: one for TV and home WiFi (8Mbps) and one slightly faster for my work, via a satellite dish (20Mbps).

I wish to use both of these connections on my Mac. I thought of using the two Ethernet ports, but obviously it is not so simple; my Mac always use the port listed on the top of the Network window.

Is there a way to have two modems simultaneously connected and then be able to switch manually which of the two is used?

In advance thanks for your help.

Hi,

click on the gear icon / "Set Service order".

Drag the service you want to use on top of the list.

OK / Apply.

You might also in "Location" create a NEW setup, click the gear icon to drag the service you want to use on top of the list. OK / Apply.

Rename the current and the new connections from the name of your 2 ISP.

Then from the menu bar you can do : /Location : select the connection you want to use.

Hi Bruno09,

I couldn't expect a better reply! This answered exactly my question. Thanks a lot.

Also if that isn't cutting the cake for the rest of the devices, consider getting a dual WAN router. I deployed a TP-Link TL-R470T at a school and it does wonderfully. It supports up to four ISP connections. You can also run the network behind that and allow it to load balance between the two or use one and the other as a failsafe! Also, can't beat the price for the feature set!
