This was provided by ChatGPT 4 and I wanted to double check first... Would this work, or help with updating security in OS 10.15?

"...Here are the steps to manually patch security flaws in Mac OS Catalina using Macports:

Open Terminal.
Type sudo port selfupdate and press Enter.
Type sudo port upgrade outdated and press Enter.
Type sudo port clean all and press Enter.
Type sudo port -f uninstall inactive and press Enter.
Type sudo port -f uninstall installed and press Enter.
Type sudo port install -v libxml2 +universal and press Enter.
Type sudo port install -v libxslt +universal and press Enter.
Type sudo port install -v openssl +universal and press Enter.
Type sudo port install -v curl +ssl +universal and press Enter.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions..."

Any help appreciated. Thank you.

I don't think this would work.

The commands will update some components but they won't be used by macOS (at least some).

I'd suggest to use the official software update tool but your machine could still be vulnerable, as Apple has stopped providing security updates for Catalina.

@DarkPremiumCho and @Insidious Thank you for your replies.
I got SilentKnight and it updated a couple of things. I also checked the box in Software Update -> Advanced to "install system data files and security updates". Years ago I had a G3 that had a firmware update that blocked G4 CPU upgrades. I think I had left that box unchecked "just in case"...

The commands chat gpt offered requires that you install macports.

Thank you for your reply. I did that a long time ago, and I update it before each weekly backup.
