I was hoping to use Netflix, Amazon Prime video, Google voice, etc. in my new Mac. But none of them exist. Then I tried some bank Apps, none exist either. Such a disappointment.

Same here. I hadn't high expectations to this, but would have liked to use tapatalk and maybe the reddit app on a Mac, but those aren't available.

While it's possible to circumvent the restriction by copying the ipa file from your iDevice using iMaze to your Mac and start that, I think that hole will be closed soon.

But hopefully more developers will allow their apps on Mac when they had a chance to test it.

I get the same vibe as browsing the App Store on Apple TV. A barren wasteland with the same old apps that were there since launch day. Apple TV App Store has never gotten better, and I don't have high hopes for Mac. Of course it's early days and maybe developers have pulled their apps until they can test them on their own Mac before being okay with them being in the App Store. I know a lot of major apps already had a Mac app so don't expect them to sell their "cheaper" iPad app for the Mac.

The developers have the right to mark their apps as "not available on Mac App Store"
Not all developers want their apps can be downloaded on Mac. Some for quality control reason(preferring native), some for profit reason(you have to pay for Mac version) some for security reason (Macs does not has a strict sandboxing as the iOS device, hence the higher potential for abuse).

Chromebook brought Android Apps to the ecosystem and few years in, the experience is still not that great. I seriously question Apples foray into this concept.

I installed Tapatalk no problem. Are you hitting the button to select iOS apps while in the App Store?

Yeah it’s better for those services to have apps on macOS too. Keeps my browser bookmarks and cookies tidy and less chance of tracking too.

1. iPadOS apps are currently limited. No screen resizing for one.
2. DTK performance and behavior has been different from the actual M1 releases! This helped our soon the be released new macOS app, but is still giving us trouble with an iPhone app using BLE.
3. iPadOS BLE is still somewhat broken and we are working on work-arounds. No docs, it "should just work," but isn't. We are also looking at potential UX enhancements for the macOS like key short cuts etc.

Developers are holding off until thorough testing. App Store reviews are merciless.

1. Not true. iPadOS apps I have on my MBA M1 are resizable if I drag the window corners in any direction. *
*using .IPAs from iPad. they are iPadOS apps.

I was hoping moving the Macs to Apple chips would mean we would have a much better version of what Chromebooks do with Android apps. Hopefully the iOS app situation on Macs is just due to it being the early days and things will improve.

The amount of developers that opted out of AS Mac support is disappointing… That being said, it is very clear to me that Apple has a LONG way to go before IOS apps are truly a good or even passible experience on AS Macs. The fact that an iPad app takes up a tiny window that is not resizable is a big issue for me. Input for these apps are subpar, and video apps such as HBO max cannot even make video fullscreen as they are restricted to their tiny app window.

I wonder how many developers have been caught by surprise just how good the M1 is, just like the rest of us.

Given they no doubt have many other priorities, it may not have been that high on their list, but now it's one of those boats you might want to jump on early.

* note: I'm no developer, this is just idle speculation on my part :)

It's not just testing it, but supporting it too.

My company allowed iPads to use our iPhone app "because why not". Then Apple releases a keyboard and all of a sudden we have to support landscape on the iPad. Which means implementing landscape support everywhere. It would have been better to just not allow our app on the iPad, but now we're stuck implementing landscape mode instead.

I contacted FERAL Interactive asking specifically about allowing X-COM 2 Collection on Mac App store and they said they have no plans because they sell a Mac version (kind of, but its not the collection, and costs 60 freaking bucks for an ancient game). I take this to mean that for likely both FERAL and ASPYR iPad ports I've bought through the years, none will be available on my Macbook Air M1, now or in the future. This is because they sell a lot of these titles on the Mac store for premiums that aren't warranted. I want to be able to use my ipad apps dangit!

I was under the impression Reddit worked on M1?

I guess it’s a lot of work to do the adjustments, such as keyboard, orientation, aspect, but no gain in profit.
i don’t know if you can set a different price for iOS apps in Mac store.
