Hi guys, I wonder if anyone can help me. I play Unreal online on my powerbook, it seems to work pretty well but on certain maps, I experience terrible lag. Could it be that the maps are corrupt on my machine. If so, how can I find them and get rid of them so that I can reload them afresh?

Thank you.

If the maps were corrupted they wouldn't work at all. You wouldn't be able to play them online due to them not matching what the server has.

Has it always been like this? Or is it a recent issue. If it is a recent issue, an OS update or something like that could have killed your performance.

Also, what maps are giving you trouble? (Certain maps, especially ONS maps, are extremely taxing on the CPU and GPU.) A G4 isn't exactly the best machine to be playing UT2004 with as it is so this could be the bottleneck right there.

Thank you Socmax. The maps are: Wild West, Psycho City, Infinity City and Redeemer Sniper Heaven. They don't seem to be particularly big maps. Redeemer Sniper has always been difficult for me, Infinity City didn't used to be, but I think perhaps that was on an earlier laptop I was playing on.

What I was wondering was if there was a way I could get rid of those maps and reload them when they came up on the server during gameplay.

hmm If they are very wide open maps, they sound like they are, then that can definitely be a choke point. You can always try lowering the screen resolution and other settings to see if it helps.

If you want to delete all the things you've downloaded from servers, go in your home folder and go to Library/Application Support/Unreal Tournament 2004/ and move the folder called "Cache" out. This is where all the downloads from servers are saved.

But remember, you'll have to download everything all over unless you open the Cache.ini, and only delete out the files you want gone.

And again, it definitely isn't a corruption issue. They're just demanding maps for that Powerbook.

Edit: Just saw what Redeemer Sniper Heaven is, that map could definitely be choking the Powerbook in terms of how open it is.

Edit 2: I downloaded this Redeemer Sniper Heaven:

It is definitely the map's fault. I was getting ~20 FPS outside the huts. This is on a MBP 2.2 with 8600gt. Normally I get 100+ fps. This map, and probably the others are just very poorly optimized.

Thank you very much for that. If you're ever on the SM server, I play as Mary_Poppins.
