So I'm on 3g, 3.0, tmobile.

I do NOT have the t-mobile data plan. I can surf the net only when I am connected via Wi-fi

I get the E (edge) sign, but it doesn't do anything for me.

However, I have noticed that the google map app picks up my location wherever I am - regardless of wi-fi access. Also, if I am at home and look up an address through wi-fi - then start driving - the dot follows my location and moves with me -- even though I'm not on any data plan.

How is this?

Just the blue dot. Does not update maps.

But how would GPS work if I'm not connected?

Is there a way to use EDGE without being on the T-mob data plan?
