I just wanted to share my experience with AT&T's Mark The Spot app.

For months now, a small patch on Route 95 on my way to work would drop calls and data would fail. Basically, my 3G signal would drop off completely in this section on 95.

I used the Mark The Spot app on Friday to report the issue. By my Monday morning commute to work, I no longer had problems in that area. It worked fine on my way home and to work again today.

Now I know this isn't every person's experience but I was quite pleased. I'm sure it wasn't a terrible fix and why it was able to be addressed so quickly.

Maybe im just a pessimist, but I think this is just a coincidence. I think that even if they do monitor the app's results then it's only to the top 1% of areas that are reported. They certainly do not rush out the very next day to fix an issue or build a tower. I'm sure they just put it on their queue of things to get fixed 6 months to 1 year down the road.

Or maybe they got alot of prior notifications by others also and they eventually fixed it....
1% areas reported are fixed? Where you get that from Verizon?

Yes, that is a possibility.

No, just from my personal experience as a software developer and having a business degree. The number was just a guess and most likely a very generous guess. AT&T came out with this app to make users feel good.

If AT&T truly does monitor this app, then I think they are only looking for a few key standouts. If they receive many reportings in a short period of time in a highly populated area, they MAY look into it.

I'm not a fan of AT&T but it has nothing to do with my post. If any network had a phone that put out this app, I would be saying the same thing.

All I know is my personal experience. For as long as I can remember, this 2 mile patch on Route 95 dropped calls on AT&T and I noticed that data dropped off as well.

I reported it on Friday and I didn't have any problems with data in that area on Monday morning. I drove through the area after work thinking it may have been a hiccup and tested a call from work to home through the bad area (10 minute drive home for me) and the call didn't drop. I tested data as well in the "bad area" while I was on the phone too.

I did the same thing on the way to work this morning before posting.

To be clear, early last week prior to using the app to mark the spot, I was still getting dead space in that area. We are talking about a 2 to 3 mile stretch so I'm sure it was possibly a simple fix that was brought to light. I don't enough about tower technology but they may have just turned the juice up. HAHAHAHA

What does beeing a software developer or having a business degree have anything to do with AT&T improving their service or with the assumptions you make?

Nothing, but it has everything to do with why the app was created in the first place.

To the OP, whether or not this app contributed to you getting your signal back or not. Congrats!

I reported about 4 times over a couple of months slow 3g speeds at my house, in the 100kbps range or less. suddenly a week ago, 1000kbps and higher speeds. seems it worked!

took them a bit to catch on but they seemed to have come through

I'm glad I'm not the only one then.

If you say so.
So AT&T put out this app so they can ignore and not do anything about the feedback they receive from it.

Do you own stock in AT&T or something?

The point of the app is obvious. I'm not going to sit here and bicker with you all day about what the app is "designed" to do. All I'm saying is that AT&T reps aren't sitting there waiting for your to report a bug and then immediately speed out there to fix the problem. Yes, if many people are suddenly reporting an issue in an area that never had an issue before, they may act on the issue.

This is the last time I'm going to respond to you because you are contributing no information here, only speculating that what I'm saying is false. I guess I wouldn't expect anything from someone who likes to publicly display that he doesn't pay for his apps though.

I downloaded the app and used it a few times, however riddle me this:

When the data drops or signal drops completely and you click to mark your spot to transmit your location...........i've found i wasn't able to. Surprise surprise. Another great one AT&T.

It geo-tags the location and sends the information/report as soon as you are in a location that can transfer data.

Really? Even when you don't have the app open?

no, when you open the app up the next time (and have service) it will send the reports that were not able to be sent the last time.

i sure wish AT&T would look at my reports. i report all around my neighborhood and at my house with no date, no signal, etc... and have never seen a change of service. poor when the app came out, and still poor in my entire neighborhood.
