What are these weird marks on the back of my iPhone 6s?

This is my old phone BTW. I had a case on it when it was my main phone, but I removed it when I upgraded to my iPhone 11 (which I used to take the photo) a couple of years ago.

I was thinking it could be residue from inside of case if you just took it out and noticed it. I had that from a case on my 6 and it came off. If you took the case off a while ago and this just happened, then I don't know, sorry.

It has been there ever since I took the case off a couple of years ago.

Looks like the finish may be coming off the phone. Many of the blemishes appear to originate from where the metal has been stamped/engraved for lettering/numbering as well as the Apple Logo. I wonder if the two rogue large blemishes started out as small scratches.

I actually don't know if there were scratches in those two spots!

I think within a few months of purchasing my iPhone 6s Gold back in 2015, this started happening. And yes, I did have a case on it. It was just scratch prone and looks like there was some poor quality in the anodization too. I have come to conclude the iPhone 6/6s is one of the poorest quality iPhones ever produced. The finish, display, battery life all sucks. I have old iPhone 5s and 4's that work better than it.

The color on the 6S is from anodizing the aluminum. It’s really thin. And in your case, it has chipped off in places.
