Markup in Sidecar - am I doing something wrong?

Hi. I put off Catalina for a long time but I was quite excited by the possibilities of sidecar. I thought it would allow me to markup stuff in preview without jumping to an iPad app via the cloud.

But I can’t write using either of the pen tools. Every time I lift my pen off the surface and bring it back down for another stroke there is a chance I will grab and move something. Typing a capital A simply moves an upside down V slightly to the right. Writing a capital D moves a | in a nice curve a line below. Do you get what I mean?

Am I doing something wrong! Apart from not writing cursively.

Also expected Sidecar would support apps from an Ipad OS level. But basically all the standard apps (e.g. all the MS office apps on Mac OS X, even the standard Max OS X apps: notes etc.) can be displayed on the Ipad only and not more - No editing possible. An Ipad is a pretty expensive small display only. I.E. useless feature as it will probably take years until it is supported by more apps...
