Mass converting media

Hey everyone,

I just purchased and ATV 3 (used to own original generation) and I've been dreading the mass converting that I'll have to start doing soon.

80% of my media is in .avi format, which iTunes doesn't like.. What's the best way to go about converting multiple terabytes of video files with ease..?

Should I be using Handbrake for this, with an enormous queue or is there something better for my specific needs?

HandBrake is your best bet, with its presets.
You could also use MPEG Streamclip, but you have to set the settings manually, which might be a bit fiddly.

I'm assuming all of your .avi's are in XviD. For the SD content, I recommend using iFlicks (the trial lasts 15 days, that's be more than enough time) with the "allow muxing of MPEG4 video" or whatever the option is called. It's the fastest way of making SD XviD videos iTunes friendly for ATV playback. Also, it adds meta data.

For the HD content, I recommend using iVI. Much easier than HandBrake, you don't have to click "add to queue" for every single film and it adds meta data.

Although, this is assuming that the ATV3 is as bad at handling HD XviD content as the ATV2. Try the first method with an HD film first, if it plays back nicely on the ATV3 I'd just do all of the movies that way.
