Massive navigation bar on left side of maps ipad os 15

Hello.

does anyone know if it’s possible to turn off The editors picks and explore guides on the side bar in maps? I really dislike how much space this bar takes up And would prefer it to just be a search box if possible.

Oh jeez. I hate that too. I havent found a way to swipe that away or found anything online. Its just one of those design choices Apple made that annoys me to no end (like the stupid Magic Mouse charging port). I even reported a 'suggestion' from the feedback app, but not sure if that ever helps.

Annoyingly it doesn't remember this choice, but if you tap the little grey bar at the bottom it shrinks it down to the search bar only.

This! Just tap that bar or swipe up on it to reduce to search bar only.

Oh I know that, I just want it to not show the whole huge bar by default.
