How do I reset my master password? I forgot what I set it as and I can't install any new programs because of this.

Thanks

i think if you boot off your system cd/dvd there's a utility in there for reseting the passwords on various accounts
That will only allow you to reset user passwords and even admin passwords.

There is no way to reset a Master Password.

Do you mean master password, because that is impossible to change once forgotten (and if FileVault is on your data is lost):

If you are the administrator of the computer, and you can't remember the master password, the information in your home folder is lost forever.
from I forgot the password to my encrypted home folder.

If you, on the other hand, "only" have forgotten the password of your admin account, that's easily solved: Checkout the Resetting the original administrator account password section of Mac OS X: Changing or resetting an account password. :)

root is thy Master
I don't think that is true. The Master Password has to do with File Vault.
