Can someone explain the logic behind this? if M = 0 and T = 50, why does (M + T) = 149?

Sure:

Price of the Magic Mouse is included in the Mac you are purchasing.

Magic Trackpad is £50 more expensive than Magic Mouse, so if you remove Magic Mouse and take Magic Trackpad instead, you only pay the difference.

If you take both, then you must pay the full Magic Trackpad price (£149).

From this we can calculate that the Magic Mouse costs £99.

Ah, I see. (I think perhaps they could word it a bit more clearly for slow folks like myself :))

Btw, trackpad is excellent, mouse is just ok
This is also my experience as far non-gaming use goes. Ergonomics-wise Magic Trackpad is better for me than Magic Mouse, and while both support gestures the Magic Trackpad's gesture support is more comprehensive.

I imagine this was a trade-off Apple's designers chose deliberately, between simplification and elaboration. They probably figured this presentation would serve a majority of their customers, but as you say it could be done differently too.

But hey, now you know ?
