Matte Screen on Air (pictures)

Just install an anti-glare film from PowerSupportUSA on my first gen. Air. What made me spend $30 on this was, I saw someone with an Air that had the trackpad button imprinted onto the screen. He said he carries around two Mac laptops in one bag and the pressure from the other MacBook forced the screen onto the trackpad of the Air. That got me worried. I also didn't like the finger print marks my girlfriend leaves on the screen. It took some time to install becasue it is hard not to leave dust under the film. I sprayed a bit of water on the screen & film to make it easier to install. I then use my driver's license to squeeze the water out.

What do you guys think?

The images on the screen look a bit sharper too.

Sorry for the poor iPhone pictures. Excited to get this up ASAP. I also forgot to take before & after pictures.

I can take better pictures tonight if anyone wants. I may take it to my local Apple store for some side by side pictures, but that may not happen until Monday because I don't have my good camera with me.

It does its anti-glare job, but does it distort light colors? i.e. does the optical quality of the image change at all, except for absolute luminance, which should probably go down slightly.

The packaging shows that it is for both MacBook & MacBook Air. Yes, they are the same size. Too bad I threw away the packaging. Otherwise I would take a picture of it.

This is what their site says; Photodon said the same thing but there was a clear optical aberration. Is your experience in line with theirs?

IMO, Power Support films are the best I've seen. I am not a photo guy so I can't say if it is as good as a $199 screen mod.

Apple Store fit them

I got one with my Air, and the Apple Store fitted it for me. It was good - ended up looking not dissimilar to an older powerbook screen. However I found the contrast sufficiently less good that I took it off. It was't bad though. If I used my laptop in places with bad lighting I'd definitely want one, but fortunately it's primarily used in non-problematic lighting situations.

I'd consider it essential if I had one of the new MirrorBooks or MirrorBook Pros but the Air is nowhere near as shiny as them.

Unfortunately, and for goodness knows what reason, the Apple Store UK don't sell the one that Power Support make for the new models. Only for the air and Whitebook that don't need it half as much.

Power Supports are far better than the others I've seen. I also have one on my Touch, and wouldn't be without it. Fingerprints are a thing of the past, pretty much.
