My last iMac purchase was over 10 years ago, it was a G5 20", which if I remember correctly had a matte screen coating.

Ever since then I have used Mac Minis and classic Mac Pros, which are connected to external displays, often wide gamut professional units where matte is a norm. I do use MBPs and know they are glossy but it is acceptable as a portable machine.

Now after a very long wait of a sensible Mac Pro upgrade that isn't in a trashcan form which was announced to not happening in a year, I finally can't wait and have to settle at the newest 2017 iMac 5K. It is frankly a decently spec'd machine for the money, a maxed out one probably out performs the nMP in some ways.

But knowing the 5K screen has glossy coating really is a deal breaker. Having handled them in Apple Store I know how annoyingly reflective they can get. I work in a well lighted room, I can control the blinds and lighting to decrease direct light sources, but still I would like to know if there is any aftermarket solution to make it permanently matte. I can probably also build or source a custom hood for it but it does not solve the issue entirely. I don't want to have to wear grey shirt every time I am on a color correct session.

Any thoughts?
