I downloaded the update from the Mac App Store and am again trying to update the 2010 Mac Mini. I tried USB thumb drive and Mac App Store download before and both just kept rebooting and not installing. I reinstalled Mavericks and just left it there but u want to get iPhoto to work so needed to upgrade.

Our had Bern on the progress bay maybe a half hour and is still only a sliver done. How long should this take?

Before you start installing it's good practice to clear the PRAM and SMC... And if you have tired to install and it failed and you had to restart, then doing the aforementioned step is almost a must. At most, the update should take about an hour all in. Less, if you have a faster machine. Good luck.

It didn't move at all for over an hour, I shut it off, restarted and it started the progress again but when up to three quarters and then stopped again for a half hour. shut it off, started it back up and it finally got to the OS X install screen and was installing.

It now has El Capitan on it. Why did I have to restart it twice for it to finish?
