I recently picked up an Xserve3,1 dual CPU model and three SAS drive trays (it had none and I found a set of three for $25). I'm looking into storage for it currently.
According to everything I can find online, SATA drives are capped at 2.2TB. Full stop. Putting in a higher capacity drive results in only 2.2TB being seen.
However, I've seen some people mention that SAS drives can go larger - I did see someone say they have a 4TB SAS drive working, but that's it.
Is there any definitive info on it? My guess is it's the same cap as a GPT-partitioned disk, or ~9.4 zettabytes, but I just want to make sure before I go out and buy some 6TB SAS drives.
Thank you!
