Hey all,

I've had a read around, but just to be sure I figured I'd ask on here. Am I able to push a mid-2010 Mac Pro to 128gb of RAM or am I limited to 64gb?

Mac Pro 5,1 (mid 2010)
2 x 2.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon

Cheers!

Have those max values changed recently.
I thought it was 48/64 for single processor (dependant on generation).

Can you now put up to 96gb in single proc.

On single processor trays - why do many members have 56GB of RAM. Seeing this makes me think I can't put 4x 16GB (64GB RAM total) in a 4 slot tray for some unknown reason(?)

Maximum Capacity - SINGLE TRAY SCENARIO: My understanding/research so far, suggests 4 slots of triple channel memory is the standard cMP 5,1 config (meaning 12 addressable channels in total).
Is this a correct interpretation ?

This means Quad Rank RAM (4RX4) can be fully addressed PHYSICALLY in up to three (3) triple channel slots and LOGICALLY by addressing channels 'unused' by the empty RAM in the fourth (last) slot.

Also - does my frequency drop from 1333 to 10600 or 8500 when i use Quad Rank RAM (4RX4) ..these are just some of the things I've picked up across other threads in which no clear answers were supplied(!)

Awesome thanks all, so just to clarify, I should be able to push to 96gb w/o OC and 128gb with OC?

Also, I'm currently running on 8x8gb so could I get away with 2x16gb to replace 2 of the 8gb (assuming they all have matching CAS, timings etc), or should I aim to get all 16gb sticks?

E5620 is in the same Westmere category as my X5680. Products formerly Westmere EP.
Also almost same specs between the two processors too. I am now using 128GB in Mojave without opencore (dual proc). I am thinking it should be the same 128GB for you. Or am I wrong, anybody?

So is a nehalem single cpu (1066) still limited to 48.
Or will it take 4x16?

Not interested in OC.
