Hello,

Have a relatively new iMac.
Really enjoying it.

Apparently it came with 8 MB of RAM installed.

Parallels uses a really big chunk of it.

Any way of increasing the RAM, or what it came with is the max. it will accept ?

It say there are are (just) 2 memory slots with 4 MB in each. "8 MB Installed"
"All Memory Slots Are Currently In Use"

By today's standards, that probably isn't all that much ?

Thanks,
Bob

Can you please post your model iMac? It is available by going to the Apple icon, then System Information.

The always useful mactracker indicates that the last imac to have two user accessible memory slots was the late 2011 imac 21.5. The memory slots on later 21.5 imacs are not user accessible, though ifixit might be able to help.

The maximum ram on an imac varies-- 16 GB is possible on a 2011 machine, though officially the max is 8 GB

The latest 21.5 iMac (2017) supports up to 32 GB (16GBx2). Although, as the other members stated, it's not user accessible. So, if your machine is still under warranty, opening it up will possibly void that warranty. With that being said, both ifixit and OWC (macsales) carry kits to open the machine and upgrade the RAM.
