I am going to buy one. They are pretty much the same price. Which is a better machine?

Mac Pro 2009 flashed to 5,1- 2x6 CORE 3.46ghz, 32GB RAM, RX580 Sapphire, 4tb HHD storage, 250 SSD

iMac Late 2013 14,2 i7 4771 3.5, 32GB RAM, 3tb HHD storage, 1tb SSD

I'd take MacPro as well as you're able to get to the drives and such if need be. It is a nice workhorse. Plus if something fails(IE hard drives, graphics card) at least you can replace the parts a little easier than an iMac IMO. It also allows for some expandability if you want more than one hard drive -- say for media. MacPro can hold up to 3 more hard drives inside. If the MacPro doesn't come with a SSD, I'd suggest getting one to put OS X on it and use it as your boot disk will make a world of difference as well.

I have a MacPro 2010(4,1) upgraded to 5,1 and with a RX580 graphics card. with some hard work and help from dosdude, I'm running Catalina right now without much of an issue.
