Hi

Is it possible to upgrade the CPUs of a 8 core Mac pro from 2009 beyond the Intel Xeon X5690??

Browsing the Geekbench results looks like there are users using newer E5 processors on 5,1 machines getting scores of 42000, much higher than the circa 32000 of the 5,1 X5690 equipped machines and much higher than the current top of the line Mac pros...

Here are a couple of examples:

Yep - fakes using newer E5's, Sandy Bridge E server chipsets and most likely not in a cheesegrater box either. X5690 is the fastest CPU that will go in a real 5,1.

Could be one of Tutor's beasts he's built :D

So not bad for a "fake", outperforming the real one.. I see in these 5,1 the Bios still says Apple, whereas in those marked as Hackintosh in Geekbench the bios is Asus.
