Is there something like a maximum number of repairs policy before apple replace your machine with a new one.

hi... what is (are) the reason for those repairs?. Just wondering.
Rgds,

I had it since last april. The screen went bad (grey spots, line in the middle, 4 dead pixels). All of that happenned in february. Took it into apple store last thursday and picked it up on friday. Everything was fine till yesterday when faded vertical lines and one horizontal appeared. Took it back to apple this morning and it was ready for pick this afternoon. At the genius bar I discovered that the mbp wouldn't sleep anymore. It tries but wakes up right away. The manager said it was put back together badly, as there are lots of gaps and they will have to replace the screen again with the housing. Since they didn't have the parts this time, they offered me to bring it when they notify me that the parts are available.

When I had a problem with my MBP which I've owned for about a month and a half, I got them to replace it. It wasn't easy, but it is possible.

This is a high end machine with a high end price tag, if something isn't perfect, they need to replace it and stop wasting your time with repairs.

I don't know how long you've owned yours, but if it's less than 2 months, it's worth complaining and replacing.

i had a machine replaced after the third major repair. not to say that is a set in stone number, but at least you can get them talking about it. although if it comes back and is truly fixed, they won't do it. if it breaks again then you should talk to them about it on the front end.

though i happened to be really good friends with my genius so he may have spoken kind words. develop a good relationship with them and they will be more willing to help

I belive the Apple Care for the US states 3 repairs to the same thing - but that was like 2 weeks ago i was reading it (while on hold :p).
Most manufacturers, even for things like mobile phones, will agree to a replacement after three attempts at repair. Normally with a refurbished unit of the same or better spec.

However, this may not apply if the repairs are for different incidents - that may well be a little tougher.

Sorry to hear that. Here in Chile that policies of replacing for free parts or the entire equipment is not an habit even tough if the same part or the same problem appears after some repairs, so you're very lucky to have the possibility to speak an speciallized people like apple genius in this kind of cases who can help you with an efficient and confidence in what they do.
I hope you'll fix the problems and you can enjoy your computer again very soon.

But they are replacing the screen again...

Yeah, the genius guys have actually been really nice and it was a good experience overall. Of course the issue wasn't resolved, and I don't want to become a regular at the genius bar.
I also hope that they will get it right this time.

OK, I can't use it anymore. It switches itself off after like 3 minutes of use now.

Zign - I lived in London a few years ago (2002) and then the magic number was 4. I bought one of the disastrous G3 iBooks in Toronto and it went belly up whilst living in London. It continued to breakdown and I was without it for about 2 months with Apples pathetic pick up and turn around times. (I lived very near the courier but I couldn't take it to them, it had to be collected. I had to take ten days leave because they kept letting me down. In the end the company manager picked it up on his way home and took it into work for me!) Each time I was demanding a replacement (Courteously) and I was met with a stone wall. By this time it was out - what a piece of **** the iBook logic board was and I was reading about class action suits in the US, people getting Powerbooks as replacements and all I got was company robots. After the 3rd time they finally admitted that if it happened 4 times I'd get a replacement. Before the years warranty was up it did and they gave me a replacement machine. It took hours on the phone listening to muzak and crap but eventually I got it. Not a Powerbook nor the top of the range iBook (Which mine was when I bought it) but the bottom of the range. Anyway .... 4. Good luck!

Do you know where it would say that?

I would have actually been reading the AC fine print since i was holding it in my hand to call. I know that is the Best Buy policy - it's stated in their lit as the "no-lemon policy".

I don't have it sitting here at the moment any longer, so i can't check. But that is the only place i would have been reading. But i'll check that box later and see what i find.

It is now in for a repair for the third time. It started of with just a screen problem. Two screen replacements now. The last time they actually broke the mbp as it now won't go into sleep mode and turns off after 5 minutes of use. I did write a letter to apple saying that they turned my mbp with a screen problem into a faulty unit. I hope they can get it right this time. The staff is actually really nice, but the quality lacks expectations.

Just got a call from Apple. They confirmed that they damaged the machine's logic board and instead of going with further repairs, they offered me a new one ready for a pick up in 30 minutes. I will only be able to get there in 3 hours. They said it will be the same or higher spec. Will let you know later today.

UPDATE: It's a 2.33Ghz Core2Duo, 2GB Ram and 256VRAM
UPDATE 2: I should have mentioned that I wrote an email to Public Relations.
