Maya - can't type numbers into any fields

I'm using Maya on Mac OSX for the first time and finding it quite different from on the pc.

Anywhere where I need to type numbers into a field it won't let me. Is there some setting I need to change?

Make sure the attribute's num fields aren't locked or linked to an expression...?

No nothing linked to any expressions...actually its on every field on every document and isn't just limited to numerical values I now realise....I can't even type in a name for my files.

Okay, so I reinstalled Maya and all's now well. Must've been a bug or something. I've read alot of posts on other sites that suggest maybe Maya for the Mac isn't so great and comes with a few issues.
