Before we start, I am a headphone junky, so I do feel like I have some level of perspective on this. I opened my new AirPods Max today, paired with my phone and set out to listen to various songs to get a feel for how they respond. As each song played, I just felt they sounded boring and kind of flat. After about an hour, I thought to myself, wow, I may actually return these. I put them down for about an hour, read some reviews and then tried them again. Despite many glowing reviews, I was finding that they did not sound good at all, never mind high quality. I tried all the headphone Accommodations in settings and no joy. Every song had a low level crackle and distortion at low levels, more or less no bass and really sounded mono. This happened both in wired mode and in bluetooth. I thought to myself, there is something wrong here, so I unpaired, factory reset the headphones and now they are literally like 500% better and sound great. Not sure what happened the first time around, but if you are having a similar experience, maybe try the full reset. Night and Day for me.
