My brother that has autism has been having constant issues with his HP 500 series computer we bought him 2 years ago. SLOW as can be. WIFI won't work over the internet, etc. It has been blown away and fresh install of the O/S from the DISCS that came with it. It helped with the wifi issue, but still extremely slow. AMD A8-6410 processor just doesn't seem to perform well. I even have an SSD in this machine and it seems the machine can't handle the speed. :(

So with that, is the IMAC a good choice for $999? Or should I just get him the MAC Mini upgraded model and he keeps his external samsung monitor? I've heard this version of the IMAC is slow.

Thoughts and concerns, let me know.

My coworker just asked me about this same computer. Best Buy is going to have it on Black Friday for $899. I told him I would rather spend the extra $30 and get it from Apple's Refurb store and skip the Black Friday madness. So, if you do decide to get it, just get it from the refurb store and save yourself some money.

Well, to get it here quickly I had to order it. We ordered the base 1.6ghz, 256gb flash drice model. I hope it works for what he needs and performs well. All he does is read the web mainly. Doesn't play any games like BOPS. Mostly basic stuff like Solitaire, etc.

Best Buy does carry the current models of iMac. But, if you could hold off a couple of days, take a look at the refurb store at Apple. I just bought a refurb 27" 5K for hundreds off the listed price for new. You should be able to get the machine you're looking for a bit cheaper or even a better machine around the same price. It's worth taking a look at at least. I'd also go for the iMac over the mini. The screen alone is worth the price difference.

I actually canceled my order as I found a refurb and decided to get a better one.

Refurbished 21.5-inch iMac 3.1GHz Quad-core Intel Core i5 with Retina 4K, 256gb Flash Drive with Apple Care.

That's a top quality computer with a great screen it should do him brilliantly?

Let us know how it goes. My guess is he'll like it.

I'll do that. The machine came in today, and I configured it and got it ready. Definitely a fast machine. It will be a learning curve for him I am sure from Windows, but he will get use to it. He will be home this evening. :)

If it has the latest Magic Mouse set it up with the Right Click for menu. That'll be very familiar for him and very useful.
