MB C2D Display Issues/Problems

Hi,

Other than a fan issue I have not addressed through apple I have been very happy with my mac book.

I have heard many people say they are not to happy with the viewing angle on the mac book. Im not sure if this is normal or not but at certain angles I can notice some big wavy lines running up and down. (like a refresh rate on an old CRT) I generally use my mac book in darker locations so when I dim the display I really notice these refresh lines. I felt like it was the noise of the fan dring me crazy but it is making moer sense that after a while of using the mac book it's not the noise making my head all crazy but the display. Is this something that would merit an exchange?

Do all macs do this? I have had three previous notebooks and never even noticed anything like this. I knoe the refrexh is set on notebooks and cant be changed? So how would I get rid of this?

Between the fan which seems to run all the time and now my display i would feel much better just brining it in for an exchange...is this something apple would honor. Im very excited about being a mac user but im off to a rough start.

I got mine online. Can I do an exchange at the store or would I have to mail it back to apple? I remeber I had a probel with an ipod and when i took it to the store they simply swapped the ipod. I used my original cables and they took my ipod and put it in the new ones box. Im hoping they would do this with my mac book.

Im sure if i state my case they will be willing to help me out.

I figured I would start this thread for the MB C2D displays.

I have the same problem with the display on my new C2D MacBook. The screen is acceptable on full brightness, but as soon as I lower the brightness to about half the waves become noticable (but not on a white or black background). I agree that it looks a bit like an old crt with a low refresh rate. I haven't found a solution yet, I guess it's an hardware issue. A previous core duo MacBook which I've used for about a month didn't have this issue.

Unfortunately I don't have an Apple Store nearby to have it checked, so sending it back or accepting it are my only options.

i agree it is not so visible on a white background or when the screen is at full brightness.

Some people I show it to do not see it and others see it right away.

I just hope somebody at the Mac store sees it and agrees with me.

My concern is if this merits an exchange.

well...I went over to the mac store and they had the place full of workers. No long lines to hassle with. THey looked at my display and did see the problem but also showed me that it was on two of the notebooks on display. They said they never really notced this and I agreed that im very critical and notuce the small things.

They did feel the fan was a little loud and said both issues would get me a new mac book they had one in stock and we made the exchange.

The new one has slightly the same problem with the display but it is mostly because Im looking for it. But the noise issues I had are gone.

Could not be happier with the service and now super quality of my new mac book

Refrsh frq vs light freq

The refresh frequency should not match your line frequency to avoid this aliasing problem. If you are in a 60 Hz place, try to use 72 or 75 Hz as refresh freq. On the other hand, if you are in a 50 Hz zone, 60 or 72 Hz should look ok (74 also looks good).

it seems this is a common problem. but like he said it is not to obvious and is more viewed under dimmer settings.

if you dont see it on yours dont look for it. once you notice it you will regret ever looking for it. it stands out like crazy once your eyes know to focus on it.

I have never noticed this on a notbook, i have a 14.1 acer, had a 14.1 dell, have a 17 inch dell and never came across this.

Is it a software issue or hardware issue? only the mac book pros have ambient light sensors, right?

I guess i will just have to live with it... I dont mean to seem like im really complaining but all the other notebooks I own cost a lot less than my mac book, even my 17 inch dell and I have been very fortunate. I just heard so much about the quality of mac hardware.
