MB C2D Screen Issue

So i went out and bought a Macbook C2D and while watching a movie i realised that the screen had a gradient effect it was perfectly black at the top then at the bottom it was a grey colour... i cant actually make the whole screen one colour should i go to my local apple store and ask for a replacement, or what can apple do for me?? My screen also has patches of shade on the screen, which is uneven lighting and theres white corners... and also a white stripe at the bottom of the screen, Would apple call this a defect?

Part of my school work requires me to use precise colour and with this, i am not able to get exact colour without tilting my head to make sure if the shades are ok.

It is normal.

I had 3 Macbooks pass through my hands to date and they all have blotchy backlighting to some extent. Just crank your brightness to "torch" and leave it on for a while to get the screen warmed up.

As for the colour accuracy comment, please tell me you are not serious.

If your talkin about the gradient effect, yes im 100% serious

or

if you were talkin about the colours, yeah i need to tilt it to check if the shade is right... as there is a gradient effect so i don't know. watching a movie sucks on this thing... im not complaining about the macbook, just the screen

i would live if this only had uneven lighting but a gradient effect isn't acceptable

I had two different C2D MacBook Pros right after they came out and they both had terrible screens. I finally gave up and got a C2D MacBook instead. I have since sold it as I am saving up for a down payment on a home. I was, as you are, less than impressed with the screen quality. Thankfully, I purchased my MBP from macconnection.com and they let me return them. I called Apple about it and they claimed it was "within operating specs" and they could not help me. Best of luck to you!

What do you mean by the gradient effect?

Are you referring to how colours shift as you tilt the laptop?

with the gradient effect i mean when im watchign a movie the top of the screen will be a solid perfect black and at the bottom i will have a grey colour.

i have to tilt the screen to see the shade. if im working on a piece the colours at the bottom would appear a couple of shades lighter than they actually were and this is a real pain

Mmm im going to see if i can get a new one, if i cant i will try to get my money back, and go buy a dell or something.

You do realize, though, that Apple doesn't manufacture LCDs, right? And that whatever laptop you get from Dell might be using the exact same LCDs as your MacBook?

Yes i do realise this... i know a couple of friends and some teachers who own a dell, and they seem perfectly happy with it, to be honest there are alot of complaints about apple and some of the apple computers at our school have problems with them, but as the IT techs dont own them they dont see the point in doing anything about it.

I must say... and I'm not trying to be an Apple basher here by any means... but I have your back on this statement. We have all Dell Latitude laptops here at work and, while the screens are not as bright, they have no real backlighting issues what so ever. Also, I have owned a few thinkpads that did not have any issues either. Apple laptops are just so freakin' thin and compact that I think it brings out some issues in the overall design. They will eventually get it right I'm sure. Best of luck Paul in whatever you end up doing.

Thanks yeah apple laptops are thin and have great design, but when they get everything right thats when alot of people will make the switch a lot of people go for macs because they are made by apple, well a lot of people here do anyway, i just leik something that works and the mac os is kool
