MB case crack (near speakers/vent)

Just noticed this crack on my macbook case. No clue how it got there, I'm very, very careful with my notebook. Do you think this would be fixable under AppleCare (I bought the extended AC for my MB). It doesn't do any harm to the working of the Macbook, but you never know what it could possibly develop into.

If you have an apple store close by its worth it to go and ask, the worst they can do is say no, but as far as i know the only cracks they cover are the ones on the edges of the front where your wrists are due to a defect.

I guess it will come to that. Nearest store is about 2 hours away.

My girlfriend's macbook, less than one year old, also has that. She barely uses it anywhere but on her desk and never takes it anywhere outside the house.

This crack happened spontaneously without any impact - I suspect because of heat and the poor plastics. I showed it to Apple when they were fixing some other stuff and they said it was nothing to worry about, seemed reluctant to deal with it. Because I was more concerned with the other, much larger issues, I didn't push it.

I would insist on getting them to fix it. I mean, there is NO indication of impact so how could they claim abuse?

Also, when I tap my mouse button (just tap, not a full click) it makes a metallic noise (like to pieces of metal hitting each other) is that also normal? Looks like I need a full check up...

I've feel like a broken record on these Macbook plastics. I've been posting about this very problem like crazy lately.

I went through this problem, multiple times. Mine ended with Apple finally replacing my Macbook, which I ultimately sold.

You're going to have to have Apple fix it under warranty. When your case cracks again, they'll have to fix it again. The third time around is sort of the third strike. It's the last time they'll have you send it in for service. The fourth time, they'll trade you for a new Macbook. When they give you the replacement, get out while the getting is good, and replace it with a PC or MBP.

Of course, this is all assuming that the case continues to crack. Maybe you'll get lucky the first time you send it in for service, but I wouldn't be optimistic.
