So i have a CD MB 1Gb 1.83Ghz, and i have noticed that if go to shut it down and then close my lid before the process is finished it no longer continues to shut down. It will just go into a weird sleep like state, and either never wake up, or wake up telling me i have to hold the power button down and restart it.
This leads me to believe something is very wrong since i did the same to my sisters identical MB only hers is a C2D, and when i close the lid before it shutsdown hers just continues the process and shuts down normally...

Whats wrong here? logic board? I have gotten rushed a few times in class and its not only embarrassing in front of friends to get errors like that, but it seems like it will damage the comp. further.

Whats the deal on this?

Mine doesn't continue to shutdown, but does wake up and continue later, have you installed all the firmware updates?

I have installed every single one. I will shut the lid, and the sleep doesnt even turn on, so it looks off. When you open the lid the sleep light will turn on completely and stay steady white. The screen will stay completely black. It sounds like its asleep, no process noises. but nothing will happen, ad i cant do anything but hold the power button. Some times it when i open the lid it will wake up and tell me i have to restart.
One of the 2 happens every single time i shut the lid before my macbook finished shutting down.

DON'T CLOSE THE LID BEFORE THE PROCESS IS FINISHED!

how would you feel if somebody told you to do something (parents maybe) and every time you attempted the project they changed their mind and told you to do something else instead.

when you start your car and then try torestart it while it's running it lets you know you made a boo-boo (grinding starter gears).

MANY! people have found this out with their mb's and mbp's. if you had a PC you'd cuss Gates and keep on truckin', knowing it was an inherent problem.

DON'T CLOSE THE LID BEFORE THE PROCESS IS FINISHED!
it's really not a hard procedure to learn, like a cat using a litterbox.

DON'T CLOSE THE LID BEFORE THE PROCESS IS FINISHED!
it's a normal occurrence.

Okay its normal, howcome for a C2D macbook it doesnt happen?
I can close the lid all i want whenever i want and it will still shut down properly, but with the CD it freaks out....

It seems like it was s problem, and they fixed it for the C2D's but notthe CDs i was wondering if thier was a fix and i hadnt found it yet...

PC laptops allow you to do this no problem. dont see why Macs cant as well. its a pain in the ass when you want to shut-down and leave after a class or meeting and you have to wait a minute.

so, just close the lid and let it go to sleep instantly. unless it's going to be more than a couple days until you open it up again. that's a lot quicker than trying to shut it down. why do you need to shut it down between classes etc.?

i just close the lid and never shut it down. works for me. why do you feel the need to do both?

the only i you need to do a shutdown is if i'm going to take out the battery or i'm not going to open it again before the battery goes so my stuff won't have conniptions.

I think the key issue is that C2D allow you to shut the lid and it will continue to shut down, CD just **** up. Thats my point. This point leads one to believe that something is WRONG with the CD MBs or MY CD macbook.
That was the whole point.

Mine does the same thing. I've just thought it was normal and I have just learned to not shut the lid before it shuts down. Besides that, my MB works great so I'm not looking for any problems and hopefully none will rear their ugly head either.
